about

This song was written by Paul McCartney in 1968 while the Beatles were in India. It was eventually released on McCartney's debut solo album in 1970. The song explores the why we leave behind belongings that were once a part of our lives, in the process leaving behind the memories attached to those objects. While not strictly speaking a lullaby, this song has a lilt and a rhythm that seems designed to soothe and calm in the lullaby tradition. I'm indebted (once again) to my big brother Jim Moray for the song suggestion.
